When I was a little girl, I’ve believed that all tomatoes were originated in France! This is because they cook lots of food that have tomatoes included in it. Later on in life, when this question has came up on my head again, I got a feeling that there’re possible chances that tomatoes do not came from France, but other country. This is because when I was young, I also thought that opium was from China regarding to their addictions, but it is not. In this fact, I rather choose to search for real information rather than thinking about it by not knowing the truth and I have found out that the opium has been diffused from other country that planned to force the Chinese to trade with them.
Thinking about the past of what has inspired me, I as well chooses to search about the origin of the tomatoes to learn about where it really came from, how it migrates from one country to the other and it fames nowadays compare to the old days.
The first tomato was found at a country in Western South America, Peru during the 700 AD. Tomatoes haven’t been spreading at that time; it doesn’t have a chance to spread itself all over its own country, until the 16th century. During the 16th century was when tomatoes were first introduced. Even though people still cannot find an evidence to prove how tomatoes went from Peru to Mexico, but Mexico was the first place tomato diffused to. Later on, the Spanish explorer came over Mexico to explore creatures around that area and he found the tomatoes so he took it back to his colony. At the time, tomatoes were well established in North Mexico and were introduced to America and Canada by a European man. And later on was introduced to Asia and Europe. Paths of how tomatoes have migrated are like chains that connects idea together. It is like how the enlightenment idea has been spreading all over the world. But the way tomatoes spread itself around the world is different for the Britain. According to Britain, they first thought of the tomato as poison from its color, and its beauty appearance and as well as the Spain. As time pass, they have realized that they are eatable and they started to cook with it.
That’s the way tomato has been spreading and diffusing all around the world. Different country has different opinions toward tomato, but as a result, tomatoes became famous around the world nowadays.
